Race Across Durham, Sunday, December 2, 2018

Start Times and Location

  • 10-Miler Start: 8:00am at West Point on the Eno Amphitheater

  • Marathon Start: 9:00am at West Point on the Eno Amphitheater

The 10-miler will finish near the Eno River Rock Quarry and the marathon will finish back at West Point.

Thank you for registering for the 2nd annual Race Across Durham Trail Marathon! We know you’ve been training hard for this marathon and we look forward to hosting you on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail on Sunday, December 2nd.

Due to persistent flooding and unsafe course conditions, we need to inform you of important changes to both the Marathon course and the Marathon start time.

For the past 2 weeks, we have tried to mark the course in preparation for race day. However, we have been unable to complete this because Falls Lake water levels are so high on the eastern section of the course, and in a handful of places, the trail is impassable with waist-deep water. Based on current lake levels, and with the addition of rain the last few days, we do not anticipate that the trail will be runnable in time for the race.

For the safety of all runners and volunteers, we will not be able to use the original Race Across Durham marathon course. We have done our best to come up with an alternate route and plan that will still allow you to enjoy the trails:

  • NEW Marathon start time will be 9:00 am on Sunday, December 2

  • Marathon will start at West Point on the Eno Amphitheater (same as parking location)

  • Marathon course will be an out-and-back course on the MST starting and finishing at West Point on the Eno and turning-around at Pleasant Green Rd.

  • Total distance will be approximately 20 miles

Packet Pickup:

Packet pickup will be:

  • Saturday, December 1, 1:00 - 4:00 pm at Bull City Running Co.

  • Sunday, December 2, 7:00 - 8:45 am at West Point on the Eno Amphitheater (Start) - please arrive 30 minutes prior to your start time to ensure you have time to check in.

Yes, you may pick-up a packet for a friend on Saturday, but all runners must check-in in person at their respective start lines on race morning.

Parking and Shuttle Directions:

All runners will park at West Point Park Amphitheater parking lot (5253 Roxboro Rd., Durham, NC 27712). Note: this is approx. ¼ mile north of  the main entrance to West Point on the Eno at Seven Oaks Rd. Follow signs for runner parking and volunteers will direct you to exact parking location.

10-milers will be shuttled from the finish area near the Eno Rock Quarry back to the start and parking at West Point on the Eno Amphitheater.

Bag Check:

Runners in the 10-miler will be issued a drop bag that will be transported to the finish line. No personal bags or duffels, and please, no valuables.

Marathon runners will finish back at West Point on the Eno Amphitheater (start and parking area) and will therefore not need drop bags.

Aid Stations and Restrooms:

Aid stations will be located at select road and trail crossings along the course and are identified on the course map. However, some aid stations are more than 4 miles apart, so runners are highly encouraged to carry their own hydration device and fluids.

Aid stations will supply water, electrolyte drink (Skratch), energy gels (Honey Stinger) and basic first aid supplies.

Portable restrooms will be located at the parking area at West Point on the Eno Amphitheater, at the marathon turn-around at Pleasant Green, and near the quarry finish. No restroom facilities will be available on the course.

Shuttles:

Shuttles will transport 10-milers from the finish near the Eno Quarry back to West Point. The shuttle stop will be at the end of Laurel Bridge road a short walk from the finish. Shuttles will run every 8-10 minutes from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

Laurel Bridge road is a narrow, unpaved forestry access road. NO PRIVATE VEHICLES are allowed on this road during the race to keep the way clear for emergency vehicles and shuttles.

Post-Race Celebration:

After your finish, we invite you to join us at the Amphitheater for a post-race celebration. Thanks to our sponsors, the celebration includes free:

Time Limits:

  • The time limit for the marathon (actually 20 miles) is 5.5 hours (9:00am - 2:30pm). Marathon runners who do not reach the quarry on the way to Pleasant Green Rd by 11:30 (approx. 17:30/mile pace) will be asked to drop so that no runners are stranded after the shuttles stop.

  • The time limit for the 10-Miler is 3 hours (8:00am - 12:00pm).

Race Rules & Reminders:

  • Your safety and enjoyment on the course is our top priority; please, no headphones.

  • Do not litter on the trail.

  • No pacing or companion runners are allowed. All participants must be registered.

  • No 4-legged friends or jog strollers allowed on the race course.

  • Your race bib must be visible and should be worn on the outside of your clothing at all times.

  • If you need to pass someone on the trail, please pass on the left at a safe location and say in a loud, clear voice “passing on the left.” High-fives and cheers for other runners and volunteers are highly encouraged.
